One new book that just came out from a very dear friend of mine is Polkadot star flowers by Barbara Smith. It is a book about finding complete Joy in everyday life. Highly recommend this book. I have already bought several copies for friends and family.

Other books maybe not so fun to read but since this is my first summer as a SAHM, I figuired I should brush up on some parenting skills before my kids drive me nutts.

Must-Reads:

Lisa See (she is to Chinese culture what Jane Austin was to the British):
Peony in Love--enticing beyond description (I found many parallels between her depiction of the Chinese afterlife and our own (LDS) beliefs on the eternities (the improtance of geneology, the journey, etc.) You'll have to read it and tell me what you think.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan--a tale of sisterhood and friendship like no other.

In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez

Belle Canto, Ann Pachett--tradional mystery wriiten like a classical tale

The Tipping Point-non fiction, but truly informative and an easy read. A GREAT resource for a marketers mind.

For a littel more mindless, but equally as entertaining, fun: Anything by Dan Brown (if you haven't already enjoyed all of his wonderful works).

Hey Maria, this is Kelly Larson here. I love your website and it's been fun to check up on you and your family. I also just finished The Host, very good. Wade just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns which is amazing and then I read recently Stolen Innocence, the autobiography of that FLDS girl. It was really interesting. Good luck with your long road trip. I'm not jealous.

If you are looking for just a couple of pass-the-time books here are some of my favorite: any of the first 3 Bourne books, Charm School by Nelson DeMille, Lightning by Dean Koontz, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Ender's Game, The Other Boleyn Girl or The Virgin's Lover (after you read two of hers, they all feel the same) by Phillipa Gregory, Bridget Jones' Diary and sequel, oh and this is kind of a youth read, but I'm about to send it out to you anyways, so A Murder for Her Majesty... Books that aren't light, but interesting: Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson, The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, and Jennie: The life of Lady Randolph Churchill. As for websites, Google Book Search is pretty rad, you can build your own library and they have pretty extensive previews of TONS of books. Sorry, this was sort of overkill...let's just say I have about a thousand favorite books, and a LOT of time to kill at work by commenting on other people's websites!
