Friday's Find – A Non-Fiction Read that 'Moved' Me

Every now and then I pick up a book that moves me.  No, not in a gushy, emotional way but in a get-off-the-couch-and-make-a-change-in-my-life kind of way.  A few weeks ago the book A Million Miles in a Thousand Years was recommended to me by two of my favorite book critics – my Sister and my Mom.  I knew if it won high praise by those two it would be worth reading.

It was a quick read – I think I finished it in 2 or 3 nights.  If you’re an avid blog reader, the format will be familiar – the chapters are full of ideas that hover around a certain theme but dart in different directions.  I was a fan from the first page.

The book focuses on the author’s attempt to edit his life story in order to make a screenplay for a movie.  In the process he realizes that the principles that make a movie great (strong characters overcoming conflict) could be applied in real life as well.  Consequently he begins to make changes in his life in an effort to make his life story worthwhile.

I won’t get into all the details her (because I want you to read it) but I can honestly say this book changed my perspective on my mothering style.  It made me want to be a better, more focused, more purposeful Mom.  It challenged me to push back the passive and ordinary and reach for something greater. If you’re in the mood for a good read and a little little enlightenment – I strongly recommend this book.

So now it’s your turn.  Grab the Friday’s Find button, add it to your post and then link up with your favorite new find (a book, a craft, a recipe, you name it).  Remember, hundreds of people visit this site every day and hundreds more read the posts via email so linking up is a great way to get new exposure for your blog.  Plus, it give me a change to check out a bunch of new products and ideas!  Thanks for linking everyone.  Have a great weekend.

  1. I also loved this book! It has helped me think differently about my own “story” and how I can improve it. This would be my great find as well – so I’ll keep looking for something unique!
