Links I Love, Tech Tips

It’s Monday again – time for a recap of some fabulous ideas from around the web.  All of these sites were featured on my Facebook fan page last week so, if you haven’t had a chance yet, you should definitely check them out.  In fact, if you liked them as much as I did you should let the content authors know!  Bloggers love comments so share the love when you stop by their sites.

Remember, if you’d like instant access to the links I love and a few other tips and tricks, you can sign up to be a follower on Facebook by clicking the Facebook icon at the top of the page or by following this link.  Here are the links from last week…

I’ve got loads of Priority boxes at home since I use them for my Etsy shipping. My little guy found my stash last week and colored on a bunch of them. I thought this post was a great idea for repurposing the marked up boxes.
  • Ink-Bloom.com
I’ve been coveting my friend’s vinyl cutter for a long time but I just can’t justify the big price tag. This cool invention would allow me to print vinyl and fabric right from my home printer. I can’t wait to try it.
  • TheLongThread.com
Do you have a stash of broken crayons lying around? Try this cute and easy valentine idea (free printable included). *Quick tip from me – make the peeling process easier by soaking your crayons in warm water first.
  • MarthaStewart.com
While you’ve got your crayons out, you should give this easy craft a try. Wouldn’t these heart-shaped sun-catchers make pretty teacher gifts for Valentines?
  • Fonts500.com
I’m a bit of a font addict. I’m a little scared to count how many I’ve accumulated over the years. If you’ve got similar font affinities you should check this post out.

Oh please tell me what to do with the fonts once I download them. They usually appear in a zip file but I don’t know how to then get them into my Word document to use. Help!!

No problem. Thanks for asking, Org Junkie. If you’re using Windows here are the steps you should follow…
    1. Unzip the file using a program such as WinZip (usually if you right click on the zipped file an “unzip” option will pop up in the list).
    2. Save the unzipped font file (usually it’s the one that ends in .ttf) to an easy-to-find location such as your desktop
    3. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Fonts
    4. Click on File > Install New Font
    5. Navigate to the file that you just saved on your desktop (or where ever you saved the file)
    6. Select the file and click OK

If you’re using a Mac the process is a little easier
    1. Right click the zipped file and select the Open With > Archive Utility option
    2. The Mac will automatically add the unzipped file folder to the same location
    3. Double-click the .ttf file, a small font window will appear showing the new font
    4. Click the Install Font button at the bottom of the window

That’s it. I hope that helps. Happy font finding!

Ahhh, finally, I have something to share with you!

Instead of soaking your crayons (because I NEVER leave myself enough time for that), just use the sharp end of a knife (scissors work too) and split it starting at one end. So you are “drawing” a line from one end of the crayon to the other, pressing hard enough to go through the wrappers.

Then give the split wrappers to the kids and they can do the rest of the peeling! (Because you are melting down the crayon, it doesn’t matter if the knife leaves a mark in the wax!) My kids LOVE peeling crayons!

    Just a thought!
